Friends and a Little Fire

This painting started off as a series of images made in a local park in Camberwell near my son’s house.Two girls arrived while I was on a bench from opposite ends of the park and they were so so happy to see each other. I liked trying to draw their friendship as demonstrated in their arm movements.All sorts of things happened from then onwards in the painting. It became a night painting, and the stars turned into embers from a brazier, which turned hot and graphic and jaggedy, like some detail from the British painter Malcolm Morley, who lived in new York. (An artist I much admire) The paths became iridescent and a hazard-suited figure turned up entering the picture from from the top like a spectre - TH
