Three Swimmers

From the mixed pond on Hampstead Heath, I liked the dynamic of the two young men wading through the water furtively looking at a stripy swimsuit clad woman in crocs. She’s either not seen them, or she’s not remotely interested. The dynamic of people looking at each other in similar contexts is very different in Denmark, a place I travel to quite regularly.There people seem not to be shackled by a British trait of being bashful, sly or evasive.What are we hiding here with our covert body language? Perhaps it’s a combination of being less blunt and more repressed?! We are definitely more gendered though in our segregation between the sexes, and women and men become more mysterious and less known to each another. I wanted the Midsummer Night’s Dream fecundity and arcadian landscape around the figures to add to the hinted at sexual dynamic of the composition - TH
